Imagine a Three Legged Stool
Your mouth is a fine tuned machine. You can feel something as small as an eye lash in between your teeth. Now imagine a three legged stool, with one leg too short. If you were to sit on that unstable stool, you would have to hold on to brace yourself. This is the same principle that results in TMJ pain, headaches, and more.
The temporomandibular joints (TMJ), the teeth and the facial muscles must be balanced. If one is “short” the other two have to brace or compensate to try and achieve balance. Undo stress will build up in one or all three areas and breakdown of the system will eventually happen. The TMJ’s may develop popping/clicking noises and pain leading to arthritis. The muscles may become spasmodic, tender and cause facial pain or headaches. The teeth may become sensitive, worn or even fracture.
